All My Children fans were overjoyed for Cornelius Smith Jr. (ex-Frankie Hubbard, All My Children) when he found post-daytime success in Scandal, and they'll no doubt be happy again because the actor's good fortune is continuing. He has just been cast opposite Vera Farmiga in Five Days at Memorial, an Apple TV+ limited series from John Ridley, Carlton Cuse, and ABC Signature.
Based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheri Fink, Five Days at Memorial chronicles the happenings inside a New Orleans hospital in the first five days after Hurricane Katrina made landfall.
According to Deadline, Smith will play Dr. Bryant King, "an internist and one of the few doctors of color at the hospital, who finds himself very much in the middle of the crisis."
Farmiga will play the lead character of Dr. Anna Pou, who is on duty at Memorial when the storm hits, while Adepero Oduye will play Karen Wynn, the nurse manager of the hospital's intensive care unit and the head of its ethics committee.
Smith took to Instagram to share his enthusiasm about being cast in the series. "How you like dem [apple]'s?" he wrote. "Gratefully delicious and deliciously grateful!! Faith and follow through will always pull you through and get you through. We in dis Bitch!!"
Smith played the role of AMC's Frankie from 2007 to 2011 before going on to star in Scandal, God Friended Me, Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker, and Manhunt.
